This year the Women and Theatre Program Pre-conference had the theme of Revolutionary Pedagogy. It was a wonderful day of panels, workshops, and awards, including a reading of the 2018 Student Jane Chambers Award Winning Play, Son of Soil by Andie Berry. (Andie is in blue, second from left).
Forthcoming from NoPassport Press, the first volume 'Lesbian Queer Plays,' part of the twin-set of Winning Plays from the Jane Chambers Prize since 2007. The first volume will include five winning plays by Mary F. Casey, Meryl Cohn, MJ Kaufman, Claire Chafee, and Gina Young. The into is by Maya Roth, the preface by Jill Dolan, and the afterword by Sara Waters.
THE JANE CHAMBERS AWARD recognizes new plays and performance texts created by women writers which present a feminist perspective and that provide significant opportunities for female performers. This annual award, founded in 1984, welcomes experimentations in form and in subject matter. It is given in memory of lesbian playwright Jane Chambers, a major feminist voice in American theater.
The Women inTheatre Program Pre-conference will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, in Boston. This year’s conference marks the 35th anniversary of ATHE’s Jane Chambers Playwriting Award. I've been invited to show a selection from my documentary-in-progress, The Eight Faces of Jane.
